QUERIDA SHOWS IT'S SPRING/SUMMER 2012 COLLECTION AT APROPO STUDIO IN SOHO, NYC

On the list was Querida’s structured basics in a new colorway: Chestnut. Also showing was some new soft pieces in a naked pebble leather that has an amazing buttery soft hand.

Textured surfaces, always being part of Querida’s vocabulary, were used on new soft goods via intricate quilting as well as more formal executions.

Always mixing the vegetable tanned leather with the soft, some pieces saw molded elements integrated into a functional role on soft basics such as cross body bags.

Another surprise was Llama leather that had the feeling of goat skin, which was used on quilted pouches.

Balenciaga and Spain examines the profound and enduring influence of Spain on the work of haute couture master Cristóbal Balenciaga.

The impact of Spanish culture, history, and traditions is explored through the recurring themes in Balenciaga’s oeuvre and organized in the exhibition in six sections: Spanish Art, Regional Dress, the Spanish Court, Religious Life and Ceremony, the Bullfight, and Dance.

Hamish Bowles, the European editor at large for Vogue, is guest curator. Objects are drawn from museum and private collections in France, Spain, and the United States, including the FAMSF collection.

MASTRETTA

The 2011 Mastretta MXT, Mexico's homegrown sports car is ramping up for production. The company is on track to produce 100 vehicles by the end of 2011, and that figure will double next year. Speaking at the Guadalajara International Motor Show (SIAG), Daniel Mastretta announced the first production MXT will be delivered by the end of July.

The aluminum chassis MXT features a turbocharged Ford Duratec four-cylinder and MTX transaxle. Mastretta is holding 30 percent of its Toluca, Mexico factory output back for the Mexican market, while the rest of the coupes will head out for other lands.

Mastrettadesign Tecnoidea SA de CV (or simply Mastretta) is a Mexican car maker and design studio established by Mexican industrial designer Daniel Mastretta in Mexico City in 1987. Mastretta under Tecnoidea and Unidiseño brands has previously developed a small number of kit cars, but the 2010 MXT is the first fully self developed car . It often incorrectly claimed to be the first ever mass-production sports car completely designed and produced by Mexican engineers and designers, but Mexican automotive companies Dina and VAM had developed cars indigenously decades before. It is only the third Mexican high performance sports car ever; it was designed as a market competitor for the Lotus Elise.

ROBERTO CAVALLI FASHION SHOW, BOLOGNA, ITALY

Roberto Cavalli displayed his Spring/Summer 2011 collection in the spectacular location of Palazzo Re Enzo, in the centre of Bologna.

The show was a celebration of leather as a material, which often features in Cavalli's work. The glamorous event, included an interview with Eva Cavalli, wife and business partner of the designer, and concluded with a magnificent firework display over the Piazza Maggiore square.

The evening was dedicated to Lineapelle, an International Exhibition of
Leathers and components.

LINEAPELLE - LEATHER FAIR IN BOLOGNA

Querida designer Rachel Eswood had a great time at LINEAPELLE

Started in 1981, LINEAPELLE is the most important international exhibition dedicated to leather, accessories, components, synthetics and models for footwear, leather goods, garments and furniture. The exhibition is reserved exclusively to the operators of the leather sector and is held in the fair district of Bologna (Italy) twice a year (in April for Spring/Summer; in October for Fall/Winter).

The exhibition covers as many as 12 Halls of the fair district, with about 1,300 exhibitors meeting over 20 thousand visitors from more than 100 different countries. LINEAPELLE represents the world’s best showcase for the exhibitors and the most effective negotiation table for the visitors and the operators to meet face to face and study the new trends, discuss on the use and characteristics of the products, organise their work, renew their partnerships and discover new opportunities.

In Sucre, Bolivia there are hat making factories that create some of the highest quality sombreros in the world.

They create their own felt from raw materials imported from Spain and Portugal.

Some of the equipment they developed is so beautiful, constructed of brass, glass, and hardwood - they look like Steampunk sculptures.

GREG NICE "Get It Get It"

Just saw the legendary rapper Greg Nice's “Get It Get It” video from his debut solo album, The Popcycle, on The Boombox. The Popcycle, is out now via One Haven Music/Industry Rule 4080, and boasts an old school hip hop feel from Greg (one half of the late 80’s/early 90’s duo Nice & Smooth). If you didn't know Nice & Smooth, you'd probably still dig this new track and video - fresh, entertaining - rhyming John Belushi with sushi - you get the idea, on top of catchy hip-hop beats begging for the dancefloor. The Popcycle features appearances from Tony Yayo (G-Unit), Flavor Flav (Public Enemy), production work from Aaron LaCrate (Soulja Boy Tell 'Em, Lily Allen), Chew Fu (Rihanna), The Disco Fries (Flo Rida, Usher), DJ Serafin (Lil Jon) and DJ Mighty Mi (The High & Mighty, Cage).

The projection mapping was done by Michal Kotek and Lukáš Duběda at The Macula with sound design by data-live and production by Tomato Production. It took four months to create, and used Christie 18K HD projectors—that's 5000x1200 resolution.

their debut album Cerulean has been released on Anitcon Records in July 2010.

Cerulean is the debut album from 21 year-old Baths (Will Wiesenfeld) on the collective Anticon label. Lots of fresh samples; thudding bass pops laced with lo-fi bedroom quirks and twerks. At times laid-back hip-hop but with dreamy vocals and fresh found noises and samples. Its hard to imagine someone so young making music that sounds like this. Prior to Baths Will recorded under the moniker [post-foetus] which was a more ambient stripped-down version of Baths. Stand-out tracks : Maximalist, Aminals, and Hall.
